President Donald Trump's approval rating has reportedly dropped, but still remains higher than two Democratic frontrunners for the 2028 presidential election, according to the latest NBC News survey.

Trump is reported to have a 44% total approval rating (30% strongly approve, 14% somewhat approve) among respondents compared to a 54% total disapproval rating (5% somewhat disapprove, 49% strongly disapprove) for a -10% net approval rating, while 2% said they were not sure. The president is, however still polling favorably compared to former Vice President Kamala Harris, who he defeated in the 2024 presidential election, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Trump was reported to be viewed positively by 41% of respondents (29% very positive and 12% somewhat positive), while Harris was viewed positively by 34% of respondents and Newsom was viewed favorably by 27% of respondents.

A new Quinnipiac University Poll released on Monday (March 9) revealed Trump's approval rating and how Americans feel about the ongoing war with Iran as part of 'Operation Epic Fury.' Trump is reported to have a 37% approval rating and a 57% disapproval rating for a -20% net approval rating, while 6% of respondents are undecided, according to the survey.

The president had an 83% approval among Republicans, a 3% approval among Democrats and a 28% approval among independent voters, as well as a 48% approval among men and 28% approval among women. The survey also found that 53% of voters oppose military action in Iran, 40% support it and 7% are undecided.

An estimated 85% of Republicans were in favor of U.S. military action in Iran compared to just 7% among Democrats and 31% among independent voters. Respondents were even less in favor of sending U.S. ground troops into Iran with a total of 20% supporting and 74% opposing the concept, which included 52% of Republicans, 95% of Democrats and 75% of independent voters saying they opposed the idea.

Polling expert Eli McKown-Dawson previously wrote that Trump's average approval rating didn't show much change in response to the war in Iran in Nate Silver's Silver Bulletin blog published on Monday (March 9). The president was reported to have a -13 net approval rating, which is a slight increase from the -15 reported in mid-February, the lowest of his second term in office.

"We saw a bunch of new presidential approval polls released over the weekend, many of which were conducted in response to the war with Iran. Those polls didn’t show much of a change in Donald Trump’s approval rating, at least compared to the next most-recent releases from the same firm. Reuters/Ipsos showed Trump’s net approval down by four points, but it was up by two points according to CBS/YouGov and unchanged according to RMG Research.

Last week, a FOX News poll showed that Trump had an 87% approval rating among Republicans, though his support varies among 'Make America Great Again' and 'non-MAGA Republicans'. Trump had a 98% approval rating among respondents who identified themselves as "MAGA Republicans, but only a 63% approval among those who describe themselves as 'non-MAGA Republicans.'

Additionally, 95% of MAGA respondents said the president was focused on the right issues while 57% of non-MAGA Republicans believed the same, totaling 83% among both groups. Trump's overall approval rating was reported to be at 43% and his disapproval rating was at 57% for a -14% net approval rating. A majority 60% of respondents said the president was focused on the wrong issues while 40% said he was focused on the correct ones.

The FOX News poll nearly matched Trump's average 43.4% approval and 54.6% disapproval rating, according to Real Clear Polling, which included its poll as well as Rasmussen Reports, the Daily Mail, CBS News, CNN, Reuters/Ipsos, the Economist/YouGov and others conducted between February 17 and March 5.
