Senator Chris Murphy has been discharged from The Johns Hopkins Hospital after suffering a "small hemorrhagic stroke," according to a statement he released on Friday. The Connecticut Democrat, who experienced the stroke while attending his son's hockey game on Halloween, will spend several weeks at a rehabilitation center to aid his recovery.

Murphy, 53, began feeling unwell last Saturday and called 911 as a precaution. He was initially taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Johns Hopkins for further treatment. Dr. Jose Suarez, chief of neurosciences critical care at Johns Hopkins, stated that Murphy has shown "tremendous progress" and is expected to make a full recovery following rehabilitation.

The senator expressed gratitude for the care he received and mentioned that he will remain engaged with his team and colleagues remotely. "My staff continues to carry out our legislative priorities, serve constituents, and ensure the work of my office continues uninterrupted," Murphy said in his statement, as reported by The Hill.

Murphy, who has served in the U.S. Senate since 2013, is seen as a rising star in his party and a potential 2028 presidential contender. He will miss several weeks of Senate votes during his recovery, but he plans to stay connected with his colleagues and continue his work remotely, NBC News reports.

Murphy's chief of staff, Allison Herwitt, noted that the senator experienced numbness in his arm during the hockey game, leading to his hospitalization. This incident adds Murphy to the list of Democratic senators who have recently disclosed strokes, including John Fetterman and Ben Ray Luján.
