Democrat Gina Hinojosa has won the Texas governor's race, defeating Republican incumbent Greg Abbott, according to NBC News. Hinojosa's victory marks the end of 32 years of Republican control in the Texas governor's office.

Hinojosa, a state representative from Austin, campaigned on revitalizing public education and reducing costs for Texans. Despite being outspent by Abbott, she managed to connect with voters over issues like education reform and the development of data centers, which were contentious topics during the campaign. Her campaign was bolstered by support from national Democrats and a favorable political climate for the party.

Abbott, who was seeking a fourth term, conceded the race at 10 p.m. on Tuesday (November 3). "I love our state. It has been an honor to serve it," he said, as reported by The Texas Tribune.

Hinojosa's win makes her the first Latina governor of Texas and the first Democrat to hold the office since Ann Richards. Her victory is seen as a significant breakthrough for Democrats in a state that has been a GOP stronghold for decades.

Hinojosa's ability to deliver on her campaign promises, particularly in education reform, will depend on the composition of the Republican-dominated state Legislature. She takes office in January.
