Michigan Congresswoman Haley Stevens is standing by her decision to endorse Republican Mike Rogers for the U.S. Senate, despite facing backlash from her own party. Stevens, a Democrat, expressed no regrets over her endorsement of Rogers, who is running against Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee who defeated Stevens in the primary.

Stevens' endorsement has led to her expulsion from the Michigan Democratic Party and the resignation of several top aides. According to The Guardian, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized Stevens' move as "a despicable betrayal," while Nancy Pelosi described it as a "dangerous betrayal" of Michigan families.

Stevens explained her decision as a matter of conscience, citing disagreements with El-Sayed's campaign tactics, including an ad linking the high cost of groceries to U.S. support for Israel. She also criticized El-Sayed for associating with controversial figures like Hasan Piker, as reported by USA Today.

The endorsement has stirred reactions from various communities. Fox News reported that Stevens' support for Rogers has been praised by some Black and Jewish community leaders, who argue that El-Sayed's associations are too radical. Former Democrat Michelle Nard stated that Stevens' endorsement could significantly impact voter decisions.

Despite the controversy, Stevens maintains her Democratic values, emphasizing her belief in a woman's right to abortion and organized labor. She remains hopeful for a Democratic victory in the House, even as she supports a Republican candidate for the Senate.
