Multiple people were killed and others injured in a shooting just after midnight Monday (November 2) near Moss Landing State Beach along Jetty Road in Monterey County, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office. Authorities responded to the scene shortly after the incident and confirmed that there were “multiple fatalities and casualties,” though they did not release the exact number of victims or details about those involved, as reported by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
California State Parks police also responded, and both Jetty Road and Moss Landing State Beach were closed Monday while the investigation continued. The area where the shooting occurred is a popular spot near the north jetty of Moss Landing Harbor and often attracts birdwatchers and visitors to the local wetlands.
North County Fire Protection Chief Jess Cortez told KTVU that crews found two people with gunshot wounds to the chest and a third person with minor injuries. The wounded individual was taken to a hospital, while the two shooting victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Fire crews cleared the area at about 2:40 a.m.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has not released any information about potential suspects, the identities of the victims, or the motive behind the shooting. Officials said there is no ongoing threat to the Moss Landing community, and no further information will be released while the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities did not specify when Jetty Road or the beach would reopen to the public. The investigation remains active and developing, and authorities continue to urge anyone with information to contact local law enforcement.
