The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is facing a potential shutdown due to severe financial issues, according to reports from The Washington Post. The board of trustees is considering closing the center as early as Tuesday (September 15) due to a recent ceiling collapse that highlighted safety concerns.

The center is reportedly on the brink of bankruptcy and requires additional funding to remain operational. A controversial proposal to add President Donald Trump's name to the building's facade has been suggested as a potential solution to attract financial support. The center's board believes that Trump's involvement could help raise the necessary funds to prevent closure.

In August, the board voted to add Trump's name to the building, but this decision has been met with legal challenges. A section of the ceiling in the Grand Foyer collapsed earlier this month, prompting management to deem the building unsafe for continued use. Roma Daravi, the center's vice president for public relations, cited the incident as evidence of the urgent need for renovations.

The financial turmoil at the Kennedy Center has been exacerbated by declining ticket sales and donations following Trump's takeover of the board. According to The Washington Post, revenue has plummeted since Trump's name was added to the building, with the center projecting a $23 million deficit for the fiscal year.

The board is expected to discuss the situation further in a special meeting on Tuesday, where they will consider various options, including the potential closure of the main building and the addition of Trump's name to the facade.
