A toddler fell from the Casino Pier Sky Ride in Seaside Heights, New Jersey, prompting a swift response from emergency crews but resulting in no serious injuries. The two-year-old girl was with her aunt and a three-year-old boy when she slipped from the chairlift-style ride before it began moving, tumbling first onto the ride's entrance platform and then onto the sand below.
The girl's aunt, a thirty-one-year-old woman from Bridgeton, immediately jumped from the ride to assist her niece, landing nearby on the sand. Firefighters responded quickly, using a ladder to safely remove the three-year-old boy who remained on the ride. Casino Pier staff shut down the ride immediately after the fall.
Emergency medical personnel evaluated all three individuals at the scene before transporting them to Community Medical Center in Toms River for further assessment. Authorities said none of the individuals complained of pain or showed obvious injuries, but medical checks were done out of caution.
Seaside Heights police and the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, which oversees amusement ride safety, are investigating the incident. Detective Steve Korman told Patch that officers found no apparent defects with the ride, and initial observations suggest the Sky Ride was functioning properly. The Sky Ride, built by Borvig and operating since 1983, is about 10 to 12 feet above the boardwalk at Casino Pier.
The aunt, toddler, and boy were all visiting from Bridgeton. The ride remains under investigation, and the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs will determine if any further action is needed.
