President Donald Trump announced on Thursday (September 3) that Adam Telle, the current Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, will step in as the acting U.S. Army Secretary. Telle will replace Dan Driscoll, who resigned earlier this week after reported tensions with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
According to The Washington Post, Driscoll's departure follows months of disagreements with Hegseth regarding the Army's future direction and the dismissal of several senior officers. President Trump announced Telle's appointment on his Truth Social platform, emphasizing Telle's immediate impact on the Army.
In a statement, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly praised Driscoll's tenure, highlighting his contributions to military operations and international negotiations, particularly between Russia and Ukraine. On Thursday, Hegseth congratulated Telle, calling him a "great patriot" and an "immediate asset to the U.S. Army."
As Telle assumes his new role, he is expected to continue advancing President Trump's agenda to strengthen the Army, focusing on readiness and effectiveness. The transition comes at a critical time for the Army, as it navigates both domestic and international challenges.
