Former Miss North Carolina USA, Brittany Boltinhouse, has filed a lawsuit against the Miss USA Organization, claiming she was unjustly stripped of her title due to her conservative beliefs. Filed on Sunday (August 23) in Duplin County Superior Court, the lawsuit accuses the organization and its state pageant organizers of defamation and civil conspiracy. Boltinhouse alleges that the pageant officials used old social media posts as a pretext to remove her crown, branding her as a "racist" and "bigot."
Boltinhouse's attorney, Patrick M. Mincey, stated that the evidence would demonstrate how the defendants attempted to manufacture a false confession from her. When they failed, they allegedly lied to incite an online backlash. Boltinhouse, who was dethroned on August 5, claims her conservative social media presence, including support for President Donald Trump, played a role in the decision. The lawsuit names Miss USA CEO Thom Brodeur, JKN Universe, and A Blaize Productions (ABP) as defendants.
In response, the Miss USA Organization has maintained that Boltinhouse's dethroning was due to conduct over an extended period that violated their standards. Brodeur emphasized that the organization does not tolerate racism, homophobia, or transphobia. Meanwhile, Boltinhouse has expressed her belief that her title was taken because of her conservative Christian views. She described the experience as a "blessing in disguise" and remains proud of her faith and accomplishments.
The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages for defamation and civil conspiracy. As the legal proceedings unfold, Boltinhouse's case highlights ongoing discussions about the impact of social media and personal beliefs on public figures.
