Mitch McConnell, the former Senate Majority Leader, is currently recovering in the hospital after being found unconscious last month at his home, reportedly due to a possible heart attack. On Thursday (July 2), his spokesperson released a statement expressing gratitude for the support McConnell has received during his recovery. The statement confirmed that McConnell, 84, is improving and remains actively engaged with his staff on matters concerning Kentucky and the Senate while the Senate is in recess until July 13.

The statement did not address recent reports about the circumstances of his hospitalization, which occurred on June 14. According to Spectrum News, McConnell was admitted to the hospital and has been receiving excellent care. However, details about the exact reason for his hospitalization remain undisclosed.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear expressed concern over the lack of transparency regarding McConnell's health. Beshear stated that he has not been kept informed about the senator's condition. The governor's concerns echo those of Charles Booker, the Democratic candidate for McConnell's Senate seat, who has called for more transparency about McConnell's health status, citing the need for the public to be informed.

McConnell, who has faced several health challenges in recent years, including multiple falls and hospitalizations, announced last year that he would not seek re-election and plans to retire in January 2027. As WHAS11 reported, McConnell's absence from recent Senate votes has prompted calls for clarity on his health status from both political allies and opponents.
