Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced a significant settlement with the online gaming platform Roblox on Monday (June 22). The agreement requires Roblox to implement strict child safety measures, including mandatory age verification and software upgrades to prevent adult interactions with minors. The settlement also includes $5 million in penalties and $9 million allocated for digital literacy education.

As part of the settlement, parents will gain expanded control over their children's use of Roblox. They will be able to restrict communication, limit online time, and control access to games and in-game currency, known as "Robux." Default settings will block personalized advertising and push notifications without parental consent. According to WDAM, Roblox will enhance its detection of grooming behavior and suspicious communication patterns involving minors. The company will also maintain unencrypted communication to aid law enforcement in combating child exploitation.

Roblox will hire an in-state law enforcement liaison to ensure real-time access for the Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and other law enforcement agencies. The settlement includes a fully funded parental empowerment and education program, as well as $9 million for digital literacy education, which was created but not funded during the 2026 Legislative Session.

Attorney General Fitch emphasized the importance of holding tech companies accountable, stating, "Big Tech put their profits ahead of our children’s physical safety and mental well-being. That’s unacceptable, and we will continue to hold them accountable." Mississippi is among several states that pursued legal action against Roblox for failing to protect children on its platform. The settlement is expected to set a precedent for other tech companies to follow.
