In a significant development in the Utah murder trial of Charlie Kirk's accused killer, the judge ruled against the defense's request to include an out-of-state witness for the upcoming preliminary hearing. The defense team for Tyler Robinson sought to have Robinson's former roommate and romantic partner, Lance Briggs, testify at the hearing scheduled for Monday, July 6. However, Judge Tony Graf decided that Briggs' testimony is unnecessary at this stage, which focuses on determining if there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial.
The case centers around the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk in September at Utah Valley University in Orem. Prosecutors have announced their intention to seek the death penalty against Robinson. Meanwhile, Judge Graf is also expected to make a decision soon regarding contempt charges against prosecutors. These charges arise from allegations that they violated a gag order by discussing the case with the media.
As the legal proceedings continue, the defense and prosecution prepare for the July hearing, where the focus will be on evaluating the evidence presented by the prosecutors. The outcome of this hearing will determine whether the case moves forward to a full trial.
