President Donald Trump is set to attend the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, France, starting Monday (June 15). The summit, hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, will focus on issues such as reducing inequality and fostering multilateralism, which may contrast with Trump's America First agenda. The summit comes after the U.S. and Iran reached a deal to end a Middle East conflict, a topic expected to dominate discussions.
Trump will engage in bilateral talks with Macron and leaders from Qatar, the UAE, Egypt, and India. On Tuesday (June 16), he will join a working session with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other G7 leaders. The summit will also address Russia's ongoing conflict with Ukraine, with a focus on economic and military support for Ukraine.
Artificial intelligence and Big Tech regulation are other key topics, with Macron inviting tech leaders like Sam Altman of OpenAI to participate. The summit could see tensions over AI regulation, as Europe seeks stricter controls compared to the U.S.'s more lenient stance.
Trump's schedule includes a dinner at Versailles with Macron, celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence. The G7, comprising Germany, Canada, the U.S., France, Italy, Japan, and the UK, will also discuss energy security and trade.
The summit may be marked by candid discussions, as Trump has distanced himself from traditional allies and expressed interest in restoring Russia to the G8. The meeting is expected to conclude on Wednesday (June 17), with Trump engaging with global tech CEOs.
