Millions across the Northern Plains are bracing for severe weather on Sunday (June 7), with a Level 3 out of 5 severe storm threat in effect for parts of Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, and North Dakota. According to Fox Weather, large hail and damaging winds reaching up to 75 mph are possible across the region.

The severe weather is expected to intensify in the late afternoon and evening hours, following a week of severe thunderstorms that impacted the Central U.S. A powerful upper-level system moving out of the Rockies is driving the storm activity, pushing a cold front eastward and igniting severe storms in Montana and North Dakota.

Cities like Bismarck, North Dakota, may see a transition from initial discrete supercells capable of producing large, damaging hail to a fast-moving line of storms. This line is expected to bring an increasing threat of severe, damaging wind gusts into the overnight hours, as reported by Yahoo News.

The Severe Weather Outlook notes that there is also an isolated tornado threat across the Northern Plains and the Ozarks region. As the severe weather threat continues into early next week, a new weather system is expected to bring a renewed risk of severe weather across the region.
