The "No Kings" movement is organizing nationwide protests on Sunday, June 14, coinciding with President Donald Trump's 80th birthday. The protests aim to counter what organizers describe as "strongman politics" and "corruption." According to the movement's website, the event will focus on uniting people across different backgrounds to defend rights and promote a future rooted in people's power.
The centerpiece of the protests is a 90-minute concert titled "Rise Up, Sing Out," taking place at The Town Hall in New York City. The concert will feature performances by Bette Midler, Patti Smith, and Rufus Wainwright, among others. Jane Fonda's Committee for the First Amendment is sponsoring the concert, which will be streamed nationwide with 18 watch parties planned in 11 states.
This year's protests follow previous "No Kings" demonstrations that occurred on Trump's 79th birthday, in October 2025, and March 2026. The movement has gained traction, with millions participating in past events. The upcoming protest adds a cultural dimension by pairing the concert with local community gatherings, which will include art-making and civic action.
Meanwhile, President Trump is hosting a UFC event, "Freedom 250," on the South Lawn of the White House, featuring a title fight between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje. The event is expected to draw significant attention, with 4,000 ticketed guests and a fan festival on the Ellipse.
The "No Kings" movement emphasizes nonviolent action and encourages participants to de-escalate potential confrontations. The protests aim to reclaim patriotism as inclusive and participatory, focusing on community and people power rather than individual spotlight.
