The Attorneys General of New York and New Jersey have launched an investigation into FIFA's ticket pricing practices for the upcoming World Cup matches at MetLife Stadium. On Wednesday (May 27), they issued subpoenas to FIFA, demanding details on how ticket prices were determined and addressing concerns that fans may have been misled about seat locations. Reports suggest that FIFA's public statements and ticket releases have contributed to soaring ticket prices, prompting the investigation.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the investigation will scrutinize FIFA's ticketing practices following complaints from fans about misleading seat locations and categories. The investigation comes as New York City offers a lottery system for discounted tickets to the matches, while New Jersey officials are advocating for similar opportunities for their residents.

The probe is not limited to New York and New Jersey. The Hill reports that California's Attorney General is also investigating FIFA's ticketing practices, citing concerns over ticket zone changes after purchase. California's inquiry highlights broader dissatisfaction with FIFA's ticketing approach across the United States.

As the World Cup approaches, the scrutiny over ticketing practices intensifies. FIFA has yet to respond to the subpoenas, but the organization faces mounting pressure to clarify its ticketing procedures and address fans' concerns. The World Cup is set to run from June 11 to July 19, with matches taking place in 16 host cities across North America.
