American Airlines has announced plans to equip over 500 of its narrow-body aircraft with SpaceX's Starlink for in-flight Wi-Fi, starting in the first quarter of 2027. This decision marks a significant win for SpaceX, as Starlink continues to make strides in the aviation industry by providing high-speed internet connectivity.

Starlink, known for its advanced satellite constellation in low Earth orbit, will enable passengers to stream, game, and participate in real-time meetings during flights. The installation will include new Airbus A321XLR and A321neo aircraft, enhancing the onboard experience for American Airlines' domestic and short-haul international routes.

According to American Airlines Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden, the collaboration with Starlink aligns with the airline's commitment to providing a premium travel experience. "The addition of Starlink solidifies American as a leading airline in keeping passengers connected in flight," Garboden stated.

Jason Fritch, Vice President of Starlink Enterprise Sales at SpaceX, expressed pride in the partnership, emphasizing that Starlink offers a seamless, gate-to-gate connectivity experience for passengers and crew.

American Airlines evaluated both Starlink and Amazon's Leo satellite network before selecting Starlink. The move comes as SpaceX prepares for a public offering, with Starlink accounting for a significant portion of the company's revenue.

This development positions American Airlines among other major carriers like United and Southwest, which have also partnered with Starlink for in-flight Wi-Fi, while Amazon Leo has secured deals with Delta Air Lines and JetBlue.
