Two U.S. Navy EA-18G Growler jets collided midair during the Gunfighter Skies Air Show at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho on Sunday (May 17). All four crew members ejected safely, according to the U.S. Navy. The jets were part of the Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 129 from Whidbey Island, Washington.

The incident occurred around 12:10 p.m. MDT, approximately 2 miles from the base, during an aerial demonstration. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and the aircrew is currently being evaluated by medical personnel. The crash is under investigation, as reported by USNI News.

The collision, captured on video, shows one Growler descending sharply and colliding with the other. Both jets then crashed to the ground and exploded, but not before the crew ejected safely. The aircrew is reported to be in stable condition.

The incident led to the cancellation of the remainder of the air show, as announced by the Mountain Home Air Force Base on social media. The air show, which had not been held for eight years, was initially promoted as a showcase of skilled professionals and dedicated airmen.

The loss of the two EA-18G Growlers is significant due to their specialized electronic warfare capabilities. Production of these aircraft ceased in the late 2010s, making them valuable assets to the U.S. Navy.
