A mistrial has been declared in the third sex crimes case against former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein in New York City. On Friday (May 15), the jury informed Judge Curtis Farber that they were deadlocked, leading the judge to end deliberations after previously urging them to continue. The jury had been deliberating for two days over a third-degree rape charge involving aspiring actress Jessica Mann.

The Manhattan District Attorney's office has not yet decided whether to retry the case. Weinstein, 74, who has been in prison since 2020, is already serving a 16-year sentence for a 2022 conviction in California and faces up to 25 years in prison for a guilty verdict last year on sexual assault charges in New York.

The case against Weinstein centers around allegations that he assaulted Mann at a DoubleTree hotel in Manhattan in 2013. Weinstein has pleaded not guilty and denied all allegations of nonconsensual sex. This trial marks the third time Weinstein has faced charges stemming from Mann's allegations. A previous conviction was overturned in 2024, and a retrial last year ended without a verdict.

Weinstein's health has been deteriorating, with reports of bone marrow cancer and heart issues. Despite these challenges, the legal proceedings continue, with the potential for another retrial. The trial has drawn significant attention as part of the broader #MeToo movement, which seeks to hold powerful men accountable for sexual misconduct.
