A tragic incident occurred aboard the Carnival Liberty cruise ship when a passenger jumped from his stateroom balcony and died after falling into the ocean. The ship was en route from Celebration Key to Nassau, Bahamas, when the man, whose identity has not been released, climbed over the railing and leaped into the water on Wednesday (May 13).
The Carnival Liberty crew responded swiftly, initiating a search effort and successfully retrieving the man from the water. However, despite their efforts, he did not survive, according to a statement from Carnival Cruise Line.
"Carnival confirmed on Wednesday that a male guest on Carnival Liberty apparently climbed over his stateroom balcony and jumped overboard as the ship was sailing from Celebration Key to Nassau," the cruise line said in a statement to Fox News. "The Carnival Liberty crew responded quickly with a search effort and successfully retrieved him from the water, but he did not survive."
The cruise line is currently providing support to the man's family, who were traveling with him. The ship was on a seven-day round-trip journey from New Orleans, with stops in Key West, Celebration Key, and Nassau.
This incident marks the second serious event involving Carnival Cruise Line in recent days. An 88-year-old woman died after losing control of her mobility scooter and falling off a pier at Celebration Key on Saturday (May 9). The Royal Bahamas Police Force is investigating both incidents.
