A six-month-old baby girl was found abandoned in a stroller in the heart of Times Square late Tuesday (April 21), prompting an urgent search by New York City police for the person responsible. Officers responded to a 911 call just after 11 p.m. at West 44th Street and Broadway, where they discovered the infant conscious, alert, and alone in an overturned stroller.
Emergency medical services transported the child to Northwell Greenwich Village Hospital. Authorities reported that she was in stable condition and is expected to be OK.
Police sources say the incident began after the baby's parents got into an argument on the No. 7 train and separated. Surveillance video reportedly shows a man in jeans and a dark jacket—believed to be the baby's father—pushing the stroller to the busy intersection, leaving the child, and then walking away. The man may be homeless, police said, but have not released any names or made arrests at this time.
The New York Police Department is continuing its investigation and reviewing area surveillance footage. Officials remind parents who cannot care for a child over 30 days old that they can contact the Administration for Children's Services (ACS) to discuss options for safe custody transfer.
