Former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio was arrested on domestic violence charges in his hometown of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, on Monday (April 6), La Saga reports.

Del Rio, 48, whose real name is Alberto Rodríguez, is accused of being the aggressor in physical assaults involving his wife, according to the Mexican news outlet.

"#BreakingNews Former WWE wrestler Alberto del Río, “El Patrón”, was detained in San Luis Potosí following a complaint for alleged domestic violence. According to preliminary reports, Civil Guard officers responded to an emergency call to the C5 made by his wife, who reported being a victim of physical assaults and alerted about the dangerousness of the aggressor," La Saga wrote in a translated post on its X account, along with Rodriguez's mugshot.

Rodriguez appeared on WWE's main roster from 2010 to 2014 and again from 2015 to 2016, which included winning the WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Championship twice each, the first Mexican native wrestler to do so, as well becoming the only WWE superstar to win the Money in the Bank and Royal Rumble -- having won the only 40-man Royal Rumble in history -- matches in the same year (2011). The 48-year-old has had a string of legal incidents in the years since, which included domestic violence issues with his then-girlfriend and fellow wrestler Saraya Bevis, better known as Paige in WWE, and being arrested on May 9, 2020, after allegedly sexually assaulting his girlfriend at that time.
