Costco is officially retiring its decades-old system as part of major changes to its digital presence, the New York Post reports.
The popular membership-only big-box warehouse club will soon place custom cake and deli tray orders directly through its website and mobile app, having previously only allowed members to fill out paper order forms in-store. Costco executives said the upgrade would improve on an outdated, "clunky" process and streamline orders from start to pickup.
“Very excited about what we have coming in the app,” CEO Ron Vachris said via the New York Post. “We’ve got ordering cakes and deli trays online coming. So many of the things that we’ve heard from our members that could be a little bit clunky are now moving to a digital state, and we’re seeing great adoption right out of the chute.”
Sheet cake options and customizable cakes are expected to be included in the new online ordering system. Costco didn't reveal a specific date for the changes to be fully implemented, but FOX 11 Los Angeles reported that the "Order Grocery/Bakery" feature was expected to be present on the app by the end of 2026.
Cake and deli tray orders online and through the app will likely be ready within 24 to 48 hours if they follow a similar process to the current in-store paper orders.
