Two hikers were attacked by a grizzly bear on Sunday (October 12) while hiking on Farm Cabin Trail near Pass Lake in British Columbia, Canada. According to the British Columbia Conservation Officer Service (COS), the hikers encountered a mother grizzly bear with her two cubs. The hikers, whose identities remain undisclosed, were seriously injured and transported to the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia. Both are currently in stable condition and recovering.

The COS Predator Attack Team investigated the incident and determined that the bear acted defensively. As a result, no action will be taken against the bears. The trail remains closed, and officials have posted signs warning hikers to avoid the area. COS officials emphasized the importance of bear safety, advising hikers to stay alert, make noise to avoid surprising bears, and carry bear spray. They also recommended traveling in groups and respecting trail closures.

Eamon McArthur, a COS representative, suggested carrying noisemakers and communication devices as essential safety measures. The COS expressed their wishes for a full and speedy recovery for the injured hikers.
