Close Call: Plane Crashes On A Florida Beach

WWII assault plane (TBM Avenger) in a turn

The pilot of a restored World War II-era plane managed to make an emergency landing near a Florida beach without hitting any of the beach-goers--although a couple of the swimmers certainly were a bit too-close-for-comfort.

The single-engine TBM Avenger had been included in the nearby Cocoa Beach Air Show. A mechanical issue caused the plane to fail. The pilot was not injured.
