During a briefing, LA County Sheriff Sheriff Alex Villanueva stated that two groups of inmates formed an ingenious plan, designed to end their time behind bars.
According to a report posted by Frenso's KMPH-TV, the actions of the inmates were captured on video in April, with one group shown to be passing a mask--and inhaling from it--while another group was seen drinking from single container of water.
The inmates believed that contracting the virus would lead to their release from confinement at an Los Angeles County jail.
The sheriff department, 9 prisoners were infected with COVID-19 after inhaling from the mask, and 21 inmates who drank from the same container contracted the virus.
